Neighborhood Healthy Lifestyle Center

Community members build, maintain, and operate businesses in their Neighborhood Healthy Lifestyle Center (NHLC). We enhance Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Teaching Kitchen Outreach (TKO) program to create student-run businesses that produce nutritious food for their community and others.

NHLCs provide numerous benefits for individuals and their communities:

Apprenticeship Academies

Apprenticeship Academies provide students with college and career prep. Students choose from high schools offering a hands-on, practical approach to learning in fields that appeal to them. Career fields ranging from the arts, entrepreneurism to zoology.

In Apprenticeship Academies students produce and sell commercial products and services. This exposure empowers students so they can make informed decisions and discover their true passions.

Economic Development Through Hemp

Hemp is used in making everything from healthcare to construction products. Hemp used to be a very popular plant prior to its association with marijuana. Since legalization in 2018, hemp has seen a resurgence.
